A Day in My Life as a Magician | Ari Novick Magic
Being a professional magician isn’t just about performing incredible illusions - it’s about living a lifestyle full of travel, preparation, and adaptability. I’m Ari Novick, a magician who performs all over Florida and Georgia, bringing unforgettable experiences to cities like Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and beyond. Here's a glimpse into what a typical day in my life looks like.
Morning: Preparation is Everything
The day usually starts early, especially if I’m traveling to a show a few hours away. First, I double-check all my equipment:
Speakers and microphones must be fully charged and packed.
One-time-use props (like flash paper) need to be restocked or carefully prepared.
All tricks must be reset from the last show, even the smallest detail matters because live performances leave no room for error.
Organization is key. I have a checklist that I run through every time to make sure nothing is forgotten. Each show requires its own special setup, and I tailor my gear depending on whether I’m performing for a corporate event, a private party, or a large public show.
Midday: On the Road
Flexibility is a huge part of this career. Sometimes, gigs come in with just a day’s notice - and I need to be ready to hit the road. Whether it’s a quick drive across Orlando or a longer trip to Miami, I always keep my schedule open enough to handle last-minute bookings.
Traveling isn’t just part of the job - it’s part of the adventure. I get to perform in a variety of unique venues, from luxury resorts to historic theaters, and every location brings its own set of challenges and excitement.
Evening: Showtime
Once I arrive at the venue, I set up the stage area, run a quick sound check, and walk through the space to make any final adjustments. Some events require a grand entrance with music and lights, while others call for a more intimate, close-up magic experience.
After the final checks, it's time to perform - and this is where all the preparation pays off. Watching an audience light up with wonder never gets old. Whether I’m amazing a crowd in Tampa or leaving guests speechless in Miami or even in Atlanta, that moment of pure magic makes every mile traveled and every hour of preparation worth it.
After the Show: Reset and Recharge
The night doesn’t end when the show does. Afterward, I carefully pack up, reset my tricks for the next performance, and make notes on what went well and what could be improved. Then it’s back on the road - sometimes heading straight home, and sometimes staying overnight depending on how far I traveled.
Being a magician is about so much more than performing tricks - it's about being prepared, staying flexible, and always being ready to bring magic wherever it's needed. Thanks for joining me on a behind-the-scenes look into a day in my life!
